PAYE Modernisation, the new real time reporting regime is effective from 1 January 2019

December 17, 2018

PAYE modernisation was announced in the 2016 budget statement and will involve the most significant reform of the PAYE system since its introduction in 1960. Employers will need to calculate and report their employees’ pay and deductions as they are being paid. This will make it easier for Revenue, employers and employees to ensure that the right tax is deducted and paid at the right time.

Employer Readiness – have you?

  • registered all of your employees with Revenue
  • received an up to date Tax Credit Certificate (P2C) for each employee
  • checked you have the correct Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) for all employees.
  • completed the P45 process correctly for any employee who has left your employment.
  • ensured you have a ROS digital certificate on the computer used to run your payroll.
  • checked that payroll software, if used, is ready to meet the new reporting obligations.

Remember - Normal year-end reporting obligations still apply for 2018

Further details can be found on the Revenue website at PAYE Modernisation.

Revenue’s ‘Employers’ Guide to PAYE’ is also a useful source of information which explains your obligations regarding the taxation of your employees.
