Full Irish Breakfast with full Irish Budget
Following the announcement of Ireland’s 2015 budget, Drogheda & District Chamber in partnership with our sponsors Bank of Ireland hosted a budget analysis in the Spire Restaurant, Duleek. The event proved to be enlightening for all in attendance as Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash and Gail McEvoy of McEvoy Accountants shed light on what the 2015 Budget means for local businesses and consumers alike.
Before the breakdown of the budget began the guests were provided with a scrumptious Full Irish Breakfast by the staff of the Spire. As they were finishing President of the Drogheda Chamber Simon McCormack thanked Branch Manager of Bank of Ireland Dermot Murtagh, Minister Nash and Gail McEvoy for speaking at the event. He also thanked the staff of the Spire and all those who attended the “bijou breakfast”.
The first speaker Dermot Murtagh of Bank of Ireland spoke briefly about the renewed life that has begun to show itself in our economy citing a “re-emergence of the consumer”. However he claimed that the Irish people had not dropped their standards and still held a strong demand for good quality produce.
Following this President McCormack introduced Minister Ged Nash saying that Drogheda was “lucky to have a minister who will deliver for the town”. Minster Nash gave a stirring speech, saying that yesterday’s budget represented a turning point for Ireland and that now the Irish people could look to the future with hope. On a more specific topic Minister Nash spoke of the importance of SMEs in the renewal of the economy and how the support given by the Local Enterprise Offices should be utilised by Enterprise Ireland to represent our unique selling points.
President McCormack reiterated Minister Nash’s viewpoint of the importance of supporting SMES’ in Drogheda and also introduced the final speaker of the event Gail McEvoy. Gail gave an in-depth but succinct account of this year’s budget, offering valuable insights to both individuals and businesses alike.
This year’s Budget Breakfast was a great success that proved to be both educational and enjoyable for all who attended. For those who were unable to attend Gail MCEvoy has kindly provided us with her presentation breaking down the budget.
